Introduction To The Task:
For this task, I had to create four moodboards from my chosen genre of the following subheadings: key artists within the genre, conventional/stereotypical representations within the genre, the development of the genre over time and target audience. After I produced the individual moodboards, I had to create an analysis of these moodboards and I did these via an embedded 'Archive.org' podcast because I believe this was a good technology and the best way of presenting my ideas.

What Have I Learnt And How Will This Influence My Ideas?
What I've learnt from this task is various conventions and stereotypes implicit/explicit within the genre of alternative rock. Examples of this include in the first moodboard that artists within the genre tend to all be bands because the main focus isn't always on the lead singer because instruments play a key role in the genre, so the drummer is a very important component of the band (for example). In the second moodboard, darker colours are more stereotypical and conventional of alternative rock because they connote the rebellious edge to the genre and represent the artists and target audience likewise. In the third moodboard, the genre has developed over time because the style/fashion sense of the artists has become a lot more simplistic, darker and casual to appeal to the modern day ideologies of the target audience. Finally with the fourth moodboard, the age demographic of the target audience is quite young (16-25) and this is shown through the use of social media, the brands presented (Vans, Obey etc.) and the activities shown such as skateboarding and BMXing because these pass times are associated with the stereotypical target audience. So overall, this will influence my initial planning because I can follow many of these conventions/stereotypes from these moodboards and apply them to my own planning because I want my products to follow conventions and look as professional as possible. Also, my products must appeal to the ideologies of the target audience and I can refer to these moodboards and further research when constructing my initial ideas.
Analysis Of Three Products:
Introduction To The Task:
For this task, I had to analyse a music video, website page and digipak from an artist, and the artist I chose was the Arctic Monkeys because they are a very popular band from within the alternative rock genre. For my music video, I wrote a detailed essay analysing the video because this was the preferred method by our teacher Lorna. For my website page, I created a screen recording and exported the analysis via 'YouTube' because I believe this was the best possible way to present my analysis and it showed a good use of technology. Finally for my digipak, I analysed the digipak through an interactive video because anyone who views the video will need to see the actual digipak and in this video it shows it from all angles.

What Have I Learnt And How Will This Influence My Ideas?
What I have learnt from this task was various conventions/stereotypes from three products within the genre of alternative rock. An example from the homepage analysis would be that it is very text based in comparison to image based because the target audience are more interested in detailed information in comparison to visually appealing images of the artist. In the digipak analysis, I found that the colour scheme is very simple and this was shown through the conventional black and white, two-tone colour scheme as this would appeal to the target audience and will give them immediate recognition that the genre is alternative rock, Finally with the music video, the colour of the costume worn by the artists is very dark and this was portrayed through lead singer and protagonist in the video, Alex Turner, because he wore all black and this connotes the dark edge to the genre, artist and target audience. So overall, this will influence my initial planning because I have learnt key conventions and stereotypes apparent in three extremely popular alternative rock products by the Arctic Monkeys and I can possibly model my own products to these products and use them as reference point in an attempt to make my products as professional and interesting as possible. An example of how this will definitely influence my initial planning is that I will use dark colours to follow conventions of the genre.
Analysis Of Primary Research:
Introduction To The Task:
For this task, I had to create an analysis of my primary research (analysis of music video, digipak and website page) and I did this through an interactive 'YouTube' video created in 'Windows Live Movie Maker'. Firstly I recorded my spoken analysis for the video and then I collected images to relate to my spoken analysis so that what I was saying was supported by interactive images and created cohesion.

What Have I Learnt And How Will This Influence My Ideas?
What I have learnt from this task was a summary of the key ideas from what I've learnt from the analysis of three products. An example of some of the key ideas is that there is normally a mixture of performance and narrative in alternative rock videos but in the Arctic Monkey's video I analysed, they only use performance because that was the best way to present the video. The colours used throughout all three products creates brand identity because the music video is very dark and in the ancillary products they both use a two-tone black and white colour scheme - this also follows conventions of the genre. A final example includes that the sound wave image heavily used in their feature song on album 'AM', 'Do I Wanna Know?' further creates brand identity because it is used in the digipak and website page so the target audience will have immediate recognition that it is by the Arctic Monkeys. So overall, this will influence my initial ideas because I can follow these conventions and stereotypes found within these Arctic Monkey products and use them for my own. An example of how they will definitely influence my initial ideas is that I will use dark colours to follow conventions of alternative rock and I will create a representational logo to portray the band and give them brand identity.
Initial Audience Research & Analysis:
Introduction To The Task:
For this task, I needed to find out WHO the target audience actually were and then I needed to find out what the preferences of the target audience were in regards to a music video, website page and digipak. Firstly, I created a survey on 'Survey Monkey' to find out who the target audience were (for example - how old they are, location etc.) and gathered a number of results which influenced who I would ask for further detailed audience feedback. Secondly, I conducted filmed interviews after I found out who the target audience were and asked them a number of questions about their preferences in regards to my three products because if I don't appeal to my target audience, there is no product. Finally, I needed to analyse all the results about who the target audience were and what their preferences of the three products were. I did this through an 'InfoGram' chart because it is a visually interesting technology and a technology that I personally have never used before.
-This is a screenshot of me posting the survey on my institutional 'Twitter' page to find out who the target audience were:
-These are the screenshots of my results from the survey:
-This is my interview research video in which I found out the preferences of the primary target audience for a music video, digipak and website page:
-This is my analysis of all the results (PLEASE NOTE: In the chart, I analyse who the target audience actually are from the survey, and I also analyse the preferences of the target audience from the interview research video).
What Have I Learnt And How Will This Influence My Ideas?
What I have learnt from this task is that I have found out who the primary target audience are - the primary target audience are from the age demographic of 16-25, males, white ethnicity, from South East England and are students. The secondary target audience could be people outside of the 16-25 age demographic, females, of a non-white ethnicity, from another region in England or another country and have another profession other than student. When I create my products, I will aim it towards my primary target audience. I have also learnt the preferences of my target audience in regards to a music video, digipak and website page. A few examples include that the target audience prefer a mixture of narrative and performance in music videos because it creates the best possible music videos. In digipaks, they prefer the digipak to be heavily image based because they are more visually interesting in comparison to text based and they would be more inclined to buy the digipak on shop sheleves if it was image based. Finally with a website page, majority of the target audience believe that links to tour dates and information about the band makes the best possible band website. So overall, this will influence my initial planning because I will take into account all of the ideologies/preferences of the target audience and I will aim all of my products at the primary target audience. An example of how this will definitely influence my initial planning is that I will use a mixture of narrative and performance, my digipak will be image based and my website page will include tour dates etc.Production Roles:
Introduction To The Task:
For this task, I had to research production roles for a music video, digipak and website page. I researched several roles from pre-production, production and post-production - I summarised some of the key roles through a 'PowToon' slide show (exported via 'YouTube') as this is a good technology and is the first time I've used the technology. I also needed to relate some of the roles to my own project - as I'm working on my own, I need other experienced Media students to help me with the production of my products.
What Have I Learnt And How Will This Influence My Ideas?
What I have learnt from creating this video is a number of roles in regards to the production of a music video, digipak and website page. A few examples include that the photography team will plan a photo shoot of the artist and in production will construct the photo shoot. A location scout in pre-production will complete recces of locations to see any potential hazards (etc.) of the location. A graphic artist will construct the layout of the website and digipak in production and include all things relevant such as barcodes, logos and so on. A final example includes that a camera man in production will film the music video and will pass the footage onto the film producer to edit the video (adding effects etc.). So overall, this will influence my ideas because I will need to take on many of these roles for my own music video - such as being the camera man because I will film the video and I will also be a producer because I will edit the footage to create the music video. However, because I am on my own I cannot do absolutely everything so I will seek the help of Media Studies experts - for example, my teacher Lorna will be my design executive because she will approve my ideas for everything. Also, several of my Media Studies friends such as Sam Oswick & Sam Anning will help me in several fields and I will instruct them with minor tasks to complete in order to help me with my production (this shows good leadership skills).Production Roles Application:
Introduction To The Task:
For this task, we needed to apply for specific roles but because I'm on my own, I needed to assign roles to other members of my non-Media group production team.
